On the threshold of a new year, it's time to take stock of the year that's passed. Though you've spent time with friends and family you love this holiday season, for some of you, entertaining in December probably was a busy, if not stressful, time. You'll need a little rest and relaxation to kick off 2012.
After taking care of family, friends and work commitments, it’s hard to find time to take care of yourself, but doing so is vital to your physical and mental health. If you're a woman who puts everything and everyone before herself, promise yourself some me-time this year.
Here are four easy ways to find extra time to do something for you:
Set an email curfew: Pick a time when you're no longer available to read or reply to emails. Taking yourself offline for the night will give your brain a rest, and give you separation from the office, which you need to enable you to recharge for the morning.
Join a class: Signing up for a fitness class or a continuing education course is a great way to direct your focus onto a long-deferred passion, or an activity that makes you happy. It's also a great way to meet new people, maintain an active lifestyle, and learn something new.
Delegate: Delegation is a straightforward, but perhaps not so simple task for some of us. It's important to let go and see if you can find 10 or 15 minutes by allowing someone else to make dinner one night of the week, or have your kids load the dishes after breakfast. They may not do it like you would, but you need to let go of your perfectionist tendencies.
Take public transit: Not only are you going green and saving money by taking the bus, but you can spend the time reading a book, catch up with a friend, or get a jump start on the morning's emails.
